Regular season games are doubleheader 6-inning games every Sunday.
Teams flip a coin to determine home team for Game 1. That team will be the road team for Game 2.
Only 1 ball is used per game.
Safety Base at Home
The commitment line is 30 feet away.
Once the runner passes the commitment line, it is a force out at home.
The fielder must use the fielder’s plate.
The runner must use the runner’s plate.
Once the runner passes the commitment line, they cannot go back.
If the runner crosses the line and then turns back, they are out once they cross back over the line.
If a runner does not touch the runner’s plate, they are not safe and can still be tagged or forced out.
If the runner uses the fielder’s plate when there is a play at home, the runner is automatically out.
If the fielder uses the runner’s plate when there is a play at home, the runner is automatically safe.
If there is no play at home and the runner uses the fielder’s plate, they are not automatically out, but they must still touch the runner’s plate to be safe.
Female Player Rules
Teams must play with at least 2 females.
If a team has only 1 female, they take an out in the 10th spot and play with 9 fielders.
If a team has 0 females, they take outs in the 9th and 10th spots and play with 8 fielders.
There are no forfeits for having 0 women.
Live Ball / Dead Ball
If a ball is thrown wildly and hits the fence, it is live.
If the ball gets stuck in a bag or chair, or someone interferes with the ball, it is dead.
When the ball is dead, the umpire places the runner where they believe the runner should be.
If a ball is thrown over the fence into the street, runners get the base they were going to plus one additional base.
Home Runs
Any ball hit over the fence in fair territory is a home run.
On Field 2, a ball hit through the open fence in right-center field is a dead ball and considered a home run.
Ties
There are no ties in the WSAL.
If teams are tied after 6 innings, the 7th inning and any following innings begin with the last batted out on 2nd base.
This runner can be male or female if they were the last batted out.
This is the International Rule.
